Early morning excitement to head home after a fun weekend at Mount Norris Boy Scout Reservation.  We had a lot of fun shooting rifles and shotguns, throwing tomahawks, making rope, snowshoeing, camping, climbing and, of course, at Ben & Jerry's!  Congratulations to Chris, Patrick W. and Russell for doing the Vermonster!

Troop 8 Wins the 2017 Scout Show!

posted Mar 5, 2017, 7:25 PM by Jim Treloar

Way to go boys on your first place win! You had two great ideas that were well executed.  The biggest factor is a booth that is run by the scouts and they are knowledgeable about the subject and on that front, you did fantastic. Kudos to all of you and to all the scouts and parents that contributed to the design and execution of the booth.

Secret Santa

This year, Troop 8 is doing a secret santa for the holiday party. Scouts will fill out a short survey about their hobbies, favorite foods, and media. Then they draw numbers and shop for whoever they get. it is a fun, festive way to celebrate and show your friendship for fellow scouts.

Big Indian 11/11/16

The day started off with a rain shower and included some frigid temperatures and blustery wind, but ended with sunshine.  A perfect fall hike up Big Indian.  The trip was 11.5 miles including a .25 mile "bushwack" to the summit which counted as a 10 mile hike for many of the boys who are still working towards their hiking merit badge.  Check out the photos below

A successful Run To The Hills 2016!

posted May 16, 2016, 9:17 AM by Jim Treloar

On Sunday we had our 2nd Run To The Hills 10K/5K Road Race with over 75 runners.  This year we were selected as one of the 12 Onteora Runners Club's Grand Prix events which means that many of their members were encouraged to attend.  This and some great outreach by Tara Rogerson and Ryan Schmidt helped us double our numbers from just 36 runners last year.  We have already received a lot of great feedback from our runners and are making plans for next year's race.  Here is just a few of the comments we have received:
  • "Loved the high fives I got at the water stops. :)"
  • "We had a Great Time."
  • "It was a great run! Beautiful, challenging course, easy to navigate, and awesome people. A perfect way to start my Sunday morning.  Thank You!"
  • "Very well organized! Good Run and a PR for me for a 10K :-)))" - a reply to this comment was "Congrats! But how could that be? I thought they were trying to kill us!"
